• How many people does this sleep

• Can I Check in early / Check out late?

  We have a parking site at the Woolshed Picnic Zone where you can park and go to the beach if arriving early, until your accommodation is ready. We need to know if you're planning on arriving earlier than 2pm. We do our best to accommodate late check outs however this depends on scheduling and upcoming stays following your departure.

• Do you allow Pets?

  No. Though I'm sure your pets are very well behaved, given we're a working farm, it is crucial we don't have pets brought onto the farm.

• Do you have electric fences?

  Yes. To be on the safe side, assume any fence is electric.

• Can I view seals at the beach?

  Yes, they're generally found sleeping on the rocks and grass at each end of the beach, easier at low tide. Keep your distance, especially when in between them and the ocean.

• Is Hickory Bay a safe swimming beach?

  No. Hickory Bay is a surf beach with strong rips and currents which can change suddenly. From time to time on certain calm days there are windows to swim, however the conditions can change very suddenly.

• Do you have Wifi?

  Yes, we have reliable wifi at the accommodation.

• Do I need to bring gumboots?

  It's a good idea to plan for heavy soils on the walk to the beach, however we do provide some pairs of gumboots for use if needed. Both kids and adults sizes.

• Can I book the sauna anytime?

  Yes, within certain hours, you can easily book a sauna for 45 mins using the website or by messaging us using the number in the manual on the bench.

  Access is via grass track through wooden signposted gate just past Cabin.
  FYI - Sauna is programmed remotely so just sit back & relax. No need to adjust temperature or switch off at end of your session.

• Can I go on a farm walk?

  It depends. Stock will determine where you can walk, but generally the beach walk and Ellangowan Reserve at the top of our road is a great option for a stroll.

• Is there a shop closeby?

  No, Akaroa is a 30 min drive back up the gravelled Hickory Bay Road.

• Are linen and towels provided?

  Yes, everything is included. You don't need to bring anything other than your own food etc.

• Do you allow parties?

  We don't like big parties being held at the accommodation given the pressure on infrastructure, however talk to us about our Woolshed Picnic Green Zone for your upcoming event.

• Can we bring a tent for the lawn to increase capacity?

  No. Okains Bay has camping facilities.

• What is Check in / Check out time?

  10am checkout and 2pm check in.

• Can I drive my vehicle to the beach?

  No, we keep it to walking access (unless someone has mobility issues) due to the nature of the heavy paddock soils and the fact we're a working farm. The short stroll is actualy a real highlight for guests. You can park your car a bit closer to the beach, if you're keen, at the Woolshed Picnic Green carpark.

• How far is the beach from the accommodation?

  About 500m, or a 5 minute walk through a couple of flat, grass paddocks.

• Is there cellphone coverage?

  No, not generally in the valley, or at the accomodation - however there is some patchy coverage at the beach.
